I Never Could Say Good-Bye Girls!!!!
I Never Could Say Good-Bye Girls!!!!
Here we are, just a few days away from New York fashion week, and I'm feeling absolutely HORRIBLE!!!
This will be NYFW's last week showing at Bryant Park! After this season, NYFW will move to the famed Lincoln Center, leaving behind seasons upon seasons of fashion history. We may be saying goodbye, but it will be a happy one. The tents have an awesome lineup and there are just as many off-site shows, proving that the economy hasn't driven everyone to internet presentations.
Get your fashion fix, check out this seasons lineup, or check out last season's collections here.

CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Gala
CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Gala
The who's who of Seventh Avenue and Hollywood collided in a stiletto filled night for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Gala. Among the guests: Nicole Kidman, Jason Wu, Alexa Chung, Alber Elbaz (keynote speaker), Diane von Furstenberg, Francisco Costa, Vera Wang, Derek Lam, Doo-Ri Chung, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai, Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig of Marchesa, Rogan Gregory, Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte and Thakoon Panichgul.
The evening's winner, Sophie Theallet, had this to say to the crowd of fashionistas:
“I’m very proud to be here tonight, you make my American dream come true.”
Speaker Elbaz gave a quip on the effects of technology on the industry today: “A few seasons ago I decided to have a screen in my studio, so when I did the fittings I would look at the screen,” he said. “I’m really scared of bloggers, and I know this is how they judge me. But I realized that whatever looks good on screen doesn’t always feel good on the body. So I decided to leave the computer — sorry to the lady from Google [Marissa Mayer, a guest at the gala] — and I went back to trust my eyes. And that’s what I do in fashion.”

Leulla no longer Trading
Leulla no longer Trading
Luella, the British fashion house, has stopped trading since Club 21 withdrew from the long-term investment plan that had been set up for the house.
This comes after a major blow hit the company-Ready To Wear producer Carla Carini unexpectedly closed, making the company unable to meet needs for Spring 2010 orders.
Luella Bartley, the label's namesake, had this to say:
"This is a very disappointing situation for everyone involved with the brand…I very much appreciate the support that VSQ has given me, but it is upsetting not to be able to protect jobs in this difficult economic climate."

FASHION WEEK
While designers fought between safe and sensational, buyers gave great applause, a generally good sign for designers (who knows what they really thought, right?!). Form your own opinion by visiting Fashion Weeks online home.

Loic Prigent, the man behind the lens of fashion documentaries such as "Marc Jacobs Louis Vouitton", is at it again as his new film, "The Day Before" captures labels Proenza Schouler, Sonia Rykiel, Fendi, and Jean Paul Gaultier in the hours leading up to their high profile shows.
A face we're familiar with when it comes to documentary tv that will also be on screen? Kaiser Karl. Lagerfeld and Prigent worked together for Signe Chanel, a fresh five part piece documenting work done for the Chanel Fall 2004 Couture Collection.
For The Day Before, 40 hours of footage from each designer will be condensed into 51 minute segents which will be aired on four consecutive nights beginning Sept 9th. Prigent followed the designers in the 36 hours leading up to their Fall RTW collections, except Gaultier, who was showcasing his couture collection.

The Day Before airs on Sundance Channel September 9, 2009 at 10PM.
Signe Chanel and Marc Jacobs Louis Vouitton are both available on Youtube.

Fashion Avenue Glammie: What opportunities/services does Nolcha offer designers throughout the year?
Kerry Bannigan: Nolcha.com offers daily business advice for emerging fashion designers with information ranging from manufacturing, money, marketing, trends, and general industry news. We also offer retail placement, networking events and editorial features. Learn more at www.nolcha.com/services
Glammie: Tell us about the Nolcha Retail Store.
KB: The Nolcha Retail Store is a temporary pop up space in New York City that we used to create a hub for emerging accessory designers new to the USA market.Through this we have developed the retail incubator that will work with fashion designes to place them into a variety of New York City retailers.
Glammie: What's your advice for aspiring designers/business people?
KB: My advice to any aspiring business person is to work smart, always think things through as what may appear as an amazing opportunity at first could soon appear to have unwanted consequences. And remind yourself daily about your goals-take five minutes to read through a goal list and understand what you want to achieve. Staying focused is not always easy when starting a business due to so many distractions, but if you can master the art of focusing you will be unstoppable.
An extra word of advice to those in the fashion business: learn to see through the fog and the wannabe's and do not trust easily. Keep business seperate from pleasure as it is a difficult industry to divide that fine line. You must enjoy what you are doing or it is not worth it.

Here it is!! Fashion Avenue Glammie's interview with Kerry Bannigan, creator of Nolcha and Nolcha Fashion Week, the fashion week for independent designers.
Fashion Avenue Glammie: Nolcha Fashion Week is going up against fashion week giant Mercedes-Benz this Fall. Are you at all nervous about turn out?

I am excited about Nolcha Fashion Week : September 2009 and believe that our supporting press, buyers, and guests will be in attendance.
Glammie: Approximately how many designers does NFW host each season?
KB: NFW has been expanding each season and this season we will be showcasing 50 designers.
Glammie: What services does NFW offer its designers and at what costs?
KB: NFW provides runway designers a full service fashion week package that includes promotion, models, hair, makeup, professional fashion/creative events team, public relations, industry guest management, and post event follow up for $8,500.00.
Accessory designers receive several days of exhibition, industry guest management, public relations, and post event follow up for $2,500.00.
Glammie: Does Nolcha allow fashion students to volunteer during NFW?

February 2010Fashion Week Upgrades
Fashion Week Upgrades
This was posted by another pnn-er, but it is such dramatic news that I thought I'd repost it, in case some of you haven't heard:
"NEW YORK — New York Fashion Week is getting a new look.
The twice-annual event, which has been held at Bryant Park since 1993, WILL RELOCATE to Lincoln Center starting in September 2010, according to a person with knowledge of the deal. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the agreement had not yet been announced.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg's office worked with the Council of Fashion Designers of America and IMG Fashion, which runs the shows, for more than two years to find a new location. The deal was to be announced Wednesday.
Bloomberg has long maintained that the events were outgrowing the park. It takes 10 days to erect the tents, followed by eight days of celebrity-studded shows, with five more days of cleanup.
The 6-acre Bryant Park, situated behind the New York Public Library on
42nd Street in Manhattan, has been the main home for Fashion Week, except for one season at Chelsea Piers.
Starting in 2010, designers will present their collections at Lincoln Center's Damrosch Park, located at the southwest corner of the Lincoln Center's plaza, at 62nd Street between Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues, according to the person with knowledge of the deal.
The city says Fashion Week generates hundreds of millions of dollars in economic activity."

Richie Rich to Launch Brand
Richie Rich to Launch Brand
The former (more glamorous) half of Heatherette is launching his own
label and lifestyle brand. In a move that may be very unexpected, the designer's first namesake show will take place at the Waldorf Astoria, far from the kitschy glamour normally associated with Rich.
Another turn from past expectations, Rich promises more wearable clothing, most of which will fall into the Juniors market and will start around $29 because "All the kids that reach out to me, they’re young and they don’t have disposable cash a lot."
But don't think he's gone too far from his known aesthetic: although the show will be at the Waldorf and will open with eight ballet dancers, Rich's muses Lydia Hearst and Amanda Lepore will grace the runway, and his clothes will still have that Richie Rich pop.
Looks he's debuting include ruffled silk chiffon and silk charmeuse dresses, kitschy lip prints, graphics inspired by Keith Haring and swimsuits that ignore seasons in what Rich describes as a “happy palette” of hot pink, neon yellow and robin’s egg blue. This show will also debut his line of sneakers, created in collaboration with Vans, to be sold during the Holiday Season.

Designers, look out!
Designers, look out!
Coming soon to Fashion Avenue Glammie, an interview with Kerry Bannigan, the 26 year old genius behind Nolcha Fashion Week, a fashion week for independent designers. Kerry, who is an England native, will give us some insight into the world of Nolcha and Nolcha Fashion Week, which will run concurrent with Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week this Fall. Designers, take notes!
